Red Red Charcoal

Another production started, and here's a something I started making with some red and black charcoal I bought quite some time back but never got around to putting to use. This might be the first one in a series. Might. Never sure.

Birthday Blast (From the Past)

So I turn 26 this day. Good to know. Well done, I guess? I really haven't been drawing much.. So here's a whole lotta' sketches from the past from the Grey Magic Sketchbook. Gotta paint more. Yup.

To be back and neck...

Alright so I havn't posted anything since August. I've been extremely busy with production work and have been jumping in and out of somewhat severe neck pains. Now that I'm finally recovering and able to sit with my head dug into my sketchbook for some tens of minutes at a stretch, I have some sketches. I started my second sketchbook, the first one isnt really complete - A few pages are left, but I dont feel like filling them up.

A lots been happening and a lot has changed from August to November. Hopefully, my health will remain in a good condition and my workload will reduce in the next few days and I will have more sketches soon.

Hot shower on a cool evening

The temperature went down today, and it got quite nice in the evening. Perfect and rare occasion for a hot shower.

Waiting for the bus

So this happened after the day I recovered from the fever, and having slept the entire evening the previous day, I woke up at around 5:30. Which is waaaaaaay too early. I couldn't possibly sleep more. I tried. But couldn't. so I woke up, and got myself ready to goto office and decided to wait for the 8:15 shuttle. Time just won't pass. But then I started drawing. And thus this.

So it's been about a month that I've been sitting next to Yon Hui at work. He's a real great guy and I believe has some real good talent and the perseverance that i have seen only in very few artists to better themselves. He has uploaded some really neat character designs in his latest blog update from his sketchbook (which was wonderful to go through), with some really nicely done poses. Do check them out! Looking at him draw, I'm also inspired to draw more! Thanks for the inspiration Yon Hui! Here's a little posing practice that I ended up doing.

Doctors

It's nothing personal, but I hate doctors.

Not my fault really, and it's nothing they do..It's just that all throughout being a kid I have made regular visits to doctors and taken countless medication for my countless allergies. When I recovered, and consequently discovered that I no longer have those allergies, I promised myself - I will make sure, to avoid visiting the doc for stuff like cold and fever - "Avoid seeing doctors". Even if that means not dating one - so be it.

This comes up as I was down with fever for a few days last week. Was almost considering going to a doctor, but then, I recovered. Yay! :D So here's a little something to celebrate.

More updates soon!

I have a lot of updates coming up. I hadn't really taken a break from sketching, but more of a break from updating the blog. For now, the most important update is that there will be more updates soon. Heeeh. Yeah I know how lame that is. So to compensate for that I am also posting a couple of recent sketches from the grey magic sketchbook.

Must evolve.

I figured I've always been indulging more into head drawings and faces. So I gave myself  a challenge of drawing different types of faces. And I failed. Need to do much more different shapes. Must start doing studies. Must evolve. Clobber! Clobber! Oh and as always, some typography while waiting for the renders.

Two pages of utter rubbish. This is what my (or something in its place) regurgitates while I wait for renders. Spew!

More importantly, attended an awesome sculpting session conducted by Jarold Sng. He is a brilliant teacher, and  a real awesome sculptor. Was real fun attending the session. We sculpted a bust which Jarold guided us through. Here's the reference :

I was gonna post a WIP of the bust, but it's SO much of a WIP that people would probably end up with this expression

Love is stupid

Kind of sums it up. KL is going good. Going to attend some sculpting sessions and sketching sessions with peeps from the office next week. Should be great fun. Really looking forward to it. For the meanwhile, a set of two interrelated quick doodles.

Old sketches from an older sketchbook!

Found these in an old sketchbook which turned into a notebook after some weeks.

Top: A series of six silent sketches depicting the conflict between kids and adults.
Middle: I dunno, a gay looking gorilla type creature, I guess?
Bottom: A concept for a "Serman Monkey",  a man-eating creature who is also known as nibbler as they kill their prey by taking tiny nibbles off the prey over a period of hours before the prey succumbs to injuries. Gruesome, isn't it?

Coffee Sketching and Ideating

Had a nice time in the evening with Dileep and Trishna at Gloria Jean's Coffees in Inorbit. Good place to sketch in peace. Even if the whole mall is cluttered with people, this is one place that'll still be empty (No, the coffee is not bad - it's pretty darn good, actually. ) Did a good 5 rounds of ideating for illustrations, an excercise suggested by Dileep -real fun :D . Probably, the last one we had before I go to Malaysia. A random scribble I did while sipping on the yummy Irish Nut Creme. Pure nonsense. :D

It's been a long time, hence a very long photo.

I've been up and down and pretty much been through a whole lot all these months. Bought myself a camera, a laptop and a mp3 player... all in preparations for my 6 month trip to Malaysia. Haven't been doing any digital art recently. A lot of stuff was on paper though, so now that I have a camera, you'll probably see a whole lot more updates, unless, I forget.

Grey Magic Sketchbook

After finishing up on the last movie, I went to Landmark book store with Iridyse to buy myself some art stationary. She suggested I take this little grey, soft, velvet covered sketchbook with a rather odd texture of paper. I was kind of skeptical at first, but you have to take that girls advice when it comes to art ;).

I have to say - it has been an addicting experience. I've been sketching in it rampantly ever since.
